Issued: 28th February 2022
As of Version 3.9.0, embedded On-Premises versions of Contrast are bundled with MySQL 8 - an upgrade from MySQL 5.7. Support for MySQL 5.7 when used in a distributed On-Premises Contrast UI installation will end by August 31st 2022.
What’s changing and why?
To follow suit with Contrast's SaaS offerings, and to take advantage of improved stability, performance and security of MySQL 8 over MySQL 5.7, Contrast will end of life (EOL) database servers running MySQL 5.7 with On-Premises installations by August 31st 2022. In preparation for this, the embedded MySQL version changes from 5.7.23 to 8 as of Contrast version 3.9.0.
What does this mean to you?
If you are using the embedded MySQL on a Linux installation, no action is necessary, but please ensure that your installation platform does not exceed the documented system requirements as later versions of some distributions may require untested prerequisites when running MySQL 8. If you are not sure if your On-Premises installation uses an embedded MySQL, please contact your administrator or Contrast Support.
For users with a distributed installation (using a self-hosted MySQL database), no action is necessary at this time but if you are running a MySQL version earlier than version 8 then please note that Contrast will no longer support that version after August 31st 2022, so please plan for an upgrade to MySQL 8 as soon as is practical.
For Windows users, the migration to MySQL 8 has posed some technical issues that have not yet been overcome as of this version so no 3.9.0 release will be available at this time for that platform.
