Support Bulletin: End of Support for .NET Core 3.1, .NET 5.0, and .NET 7.0

  • Updated

Issued: November 18, 2025

Contrast will be formally ending support for the following versions of .NET Core that have reached their official End of Life (EOL) by Microsoft. This decision aligns with our commitment to ensuring the highest level of security and compatibility for our customers by focusing on support language versions.

What's Changing and Why?

Contrast is discontinuing support for several unsupported major versions of the .NET framework, which have already passed their EOL dates as defined by Microsoft:

  • NET Core 3.1: Microsoft ended support for this version on December 13, 2022.
  • NET 5.0: Microsoft ended support for this version on May 10, 2022.
  • NET 7.0: Microsoft ended support for this version on May 15, 2024.

This change will take effect with the next major version of the Contrast .NET agent, included in our December release.

What Does This Mean to You?

  • Existing Agents: Agents currently running on .NET Core 3.1, .NET 5.0, or .NET 7.0 will continue to work normally, but they will not automatically update to the new major version.
  • New Agent Versions: The new major version of the Contrast .NET agent will no longer work in applications running on these unsupported versions of .NET.

Do You Need to Make Any Changes?

To ensure you can continue to receive the latest updates, patches, and full support from Contrast, we strongly recommend migrating your applications to a supported version of .NET.

  • If you want to upgrade your Contrast agent to the latest major version, you must first ensure your application is running on a supported version of .NET.
